Jets close to trade for Davante Adams from Raiders, as per reports

Multiple news sources announced that the New York Jets will be obtaining Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders in return for a conditional third-round selection. According to reports from ESPN and the Athletic, Adams’ personal performance for the remainder of the season could result in the elevation of that pick to a second-round selection.

The Jets have reportedly agreed to absorb the remainder of Adams’ salary to finalize the deal, according to the NFL Network. He is currently in the midst of his third season playing under a five-year, $140m agreement that was negotiated in 2022. This covers basic pay of $35.64m for the years 2025 and 2026. Nonetheless, as per Spotrac sports salary database, there are no guaranteed funds left in Adams’ contract.

The Jets experienced their third consecutive defeat of the season on Monday night against the Buffalo Bulls, concluding a chaotic week where coach Robert Saleh was dismissed, defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich took over as interim coach, and offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett was replaced by Todd Downing for play-calling responsibilities.

Rodgers and Adams, who played together for eight seasons in Green Bay, have recently requested a trade from the Raiders. The duo of Rodgers and Adams combined for 622 catches, 7,590 yards, and 69 scores.

The Jets are optimistic that the duo can replicate their success.

In three games this season, Adams, aged 31, has recorded 18 receptions, 209 receiving yards, and one touchdown. He is currently dealing with a persistent hamstring injury that forced him to miss the past three weeks.

Adams, a six-time Pro Bowl pick, has accumulated 890 receptions for 10,990 yards and 96 touchdowns in 153 total games (146 as a starter) while playing for the Packers (2014-21) and Raiders.

In six games this season, Rodgers, aged 40, has passed for 1,387 yards, throwing nine touchdowns and five interceptions.

Garrett Wilson has the most catches (41) and receiving yards (399) for the Jets with three touchdowns, while Allen Lazard, a former Packer, leads the team with five touchdown receptions.

Rodgers threw for 60,442 yards, 484 touchdowns, and 110 interceptions in 237 games (230 starts) for the Packers (2005-22) and Jets, with a 150-79-1 record. He participated in 10 Pro Bowls and guided Green Bay to win Super Bowl XLV against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
