NBC New York helicopter footage depicts a sizable portion of a tree obstructing the tracks and the front of the train entirely destroyed.

The New Jersey Transit Police are currently present at the location and conducting an investigation.

River LINE service between Florence and Trenton is currently not operating in either direction due to suspension, with alternative bus service available for commuters.

On X, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy stated that he was informed about the incident where the light rail hit a tree on the tracks, resulting in the train operator’s death and passengers getting injured. He expressed condolences and prayers for everyone impacted by this unfortunate event.

Norris Young, a passenger on the train, told NBC Philadelphia the train hit a “gigantic tree.”

“There was a tree on the track, I don’t know if it fell on the track or if it was just laying on the track,” Young said.

He recounted witnessing passengers injured by the accident and seeing at least one person taken away on a stretcher.

“It was like a movie,” he said. “I’m still shaken up. Somebody lost their life.”
