Vance describes ex-Marine John Kelly as ‘disgruntled’ over the general’s shocking assertion that Trump admired Hitler, 2024

Vance calls ex-Marine Kelly ‘disgruntled’ over Hitler claim

Republican VP pick JD Vance argued with interviewers on two TV channels this Sunday as his partner avoids mainstream journalists and prefers podcast interviews.

On CNN, Vance argued with Jake Tapper of State of the Union about the latest claims from John Kelly, the former White House chief of staff under Trump. Kelly informed the media recently that his previous employer lauded Adolf Hitler and expressed a desire for faithful generals similar to those who served in the Third Reich.

Tapper asked Vance about Kelly’s version of events, and Vance countered by alleging that the former chief of staff had ulterior motives, particularly in wanting to increase US military intervention abroad. Vance supported his assertion by pointing to Kelly’s decision to publish his comments in The Atlantic, which is led by Jeffrey Goldberg, someone Vance believed was part of a larger anti-Trump plot due to his support of the Iraq War.

Tapper Asked

“All of these people, including the former vice president [Mike Pence], all of these dozens of people who worked for Trump just have this horribly damaged worldview and they’re all just going after Donald Trump because they want to send people into war?” Tapper asked.

Conversation Between Them

JD Vance responded, “absolutely”.

“All of these people, Jake, they came into office thinking that they could control Donald Trump,” Vance said.

“Mike Pence thought he could control Donald Trump?” Tapper asked.

“Yes, he did,” Vance responded, to Tapper’s shocked laughter.

“[John Kelly] agrees with Trump on most policy. He disagrees with Trump on how Trump views his role and the fascism and the authoritarianism.” Tapper.

 “I don’t buy that. Jake.”

During his appearance on Meet the Press, he would later refer to Kelly as a “disgruntled former employee,” despite acknowledging his status as a respected former general in the Marine Corps.

JD Stated

“This disagreement is not about personalities. This disagreement is because John Kelly didn’t like the peace-through-strength policy of Donald Trump,” Vance claimed to Kristen Welker.

He also appeared on CBS’ Face the Nation. He was asked about the increasing gender gap in the 2024 election and rejected the notion that either he or Trump had issues with women.

The vice president has taken on the role of Trump’s main spokesperson in the media since the former president has been avoiding journalists. He is concerned about questions regarding his strange campaign events and the conspiracy theories he promotes, as well as criticisms of his attacks on Democrats, the media, and others he sees as adversaries.

On Sunday, Vance addressed some of that criticism and avoided answering questions about Trump’s plan to bring Liz Cheney, a Republican critic of the ex-president, to a military tribunal for her role in the January 6 attack investigation. He also falsely claimed that the reporting on those topics was sourced “anonymously” when in fact almost twelve former Trump administration officials who spoke to reporters about Trump’s statements had given their names for the record.

“It does take a lot of contortions and a real desperation to try to convince people that they shouldn’t listen to those who know Donald Trump best.” Liz Cheney responded to JD Vance.

Cheney herself responded on CNN: “It does take a lot of contortions and a real desperation to try to convince people that they shouldn’t listen to those who know Donald Trump best.”

Vance’s ability to handle media interviews and his willingness to respond to difficult questions attracted him to the Trump team, with backing from Donald Trump Jr and Steve Bannon. The Ohio senator, in his first term, has a lot of experience in this area, as he has been through tough questioning about his previous characterization of Trump as “America’s Hitler.”

Surveys show that the competition is even across the country and tight in about six key states as the election approaches its last week.
