Rita Moreno gets barbie-fied as tribute
The iconic Rita Moreno, who has won an EGOT and received numerous awards over her 40-year career, will be honored with a Barbie doll resembling her before her 93rd birthday next month.
Barbie is commemorating the birthday of the actor and singer on Dec. 11 by releasing a special-edition Rita Moreno doll as the latest addition to their Barbie Tribute Collection. The doll will be up for sale on Amazon for $40 from Nov. 20 onwards.
The doll replicates Moreno’s iconic red carpet looks, wearing a stylish black and gold dress featuring a strapless sweetheart neckline and a long skirt adorned with metallic patterns. The doll is also styled with long gloves, bold earrings, and a stylish up-do to finish her outfit.

“I was a girl who decided to go for it, and despite the challenges I faced, I never gave up on my dreams. That’s what I hope this doll inspires in each and every girl today: to live their life with courage and resilience so that they can make their dreams a reality,” Moreno said in a statement. “It’s been an absolute pleasure to work with Barbie to bring this doll to life, and I hope it serves as a reminder to embrace your limitless possibilities and pursue your passions because when you embrace them, you’re bound to go far.”
In addition to her achievements in theater and film, Moreno has leveraged her influence to empower fellow Latinos to share their genuine experiences. Moreno acts as the National Honorary Chair of the Advisory Council for Latinas & Power Corp, providing support and advice for the Latinas in Leadership Institute.
In 2021, the Barbie Tribute Collection was launched to honor trailblazers for their influence, achievements, and lasting impact. Previous recipients have been Lucille Ball, Vera Wang, and Laverne Cox.
