The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has reported that a highly contagious new variant of Covid is spreading rapidly in the UK as the number of cases rises.
Referred to as XEC, this strain is a mix of the KS.1.1 and KP.3.3 versions. Data from the UKHSA reveals that the hospitalization rate for individuals who have tested positive for the new variant increased to 4.5 per 100,000 individuals by October 6th.
