Bauer Media’s disheartening decision to close its Liverpool studios at St Johns Beacon impacts 100s of employees and the local creative scene

Bauer plans to close Liverpool studios, leave St Johns

St Johns Beacon, also known as the Radio City Tower in Liverpool, is being left by Bauer media after 24 years of occupation.

The landmark now hosts the breakfast show for Greatest Hits Radio, as well as the Radio City / Rock FM breakfast show with Leanne and Joel, and other radio station employees.

Located 400 ft above Liverpool’s skyline, three local radio stations were once stationed at its peak.

St Johns Beacon used to be a rotating dining establishment, but now serves as a tourist spot and broadcasting location for the local DAB multiplex.

Bauer Media Spokesperson Remarks

A spokesperson for Bauer Media Audio UK said: “We are incredibly proud to have been part of the vibrant history of the Grade II listed St Johns Beacon. This next step allows us to invest in facilities that better support our vision and evolving needs.”

“The final shows from St Johns Beacon will air on Tuesday 24th December.  Following this date, Greatest Hits Radio Breakfast will broadcast nationally from Bauer’s state-of-the-art Northwest hub, whilst Hits Radio Liverpool Breakfast will continue to broadcast from the city.”

Bauer Media Audio still rents the Radio City 96.7 sign and is currently discussing with the landlord and planning authorities about replacing it with Hits Radio.
