Bill Munro Died at the Age of 80
Respects have been shown to Bill Munro, the founder of Barrhead Travel, following his passing at 80 years old.
The entrepreneur passed away at his residence in Lanarkshire on Saturday, after being unwell since the summer.
After discovering a demand for a business operating outside of regular hours, Mr Munro established his company in East Renfrewshire in 1975.
The company grew to have hundreds of workers and several shops across Scotland, England, and Northern Ireland.

Mr Munro was praised for delivering a “transformational impact” to the travel industry.
Spokesperson Stated
A spokesperson for Barrhead Travel stated: “His bold vision fundamentally changed the landscape for high street travel agents across the country.”
“He made a tremendous contribution to the overall travel industry as well as becoming an influential figure within the Scottish business community.”
Scottish Passenger Agents’ Association’s Representetive Stated
A representative of the Scottish Passenger Agents’ Association stated: “Bill’s colleagues in the Scottish travel industry are all saddened by the news of his death.”
“Bill had an invaluable and transformational impact on the travel industry and his legacy is evident in the Scottish travel sector today. He will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.”
Sharon took over as the company’s leader in 2007 following her father, who still had a role within the agency.
In 2014, he sparked debate by writing a letter to employees expressing his opposition to Scottish independence, emphasizing that his views were personal and not representative of the company.
In 2018, Barrhead was bought by the American company Travel Leaders Group and Bill Munro assumed an advisory position within the organization.
But the post ended bitterly later that year when he was fired, later receiving a payout for unfair dismissal.
His wife Susan, daughters Sharon and Wendy, as well as grandchildren Ross and Hannah, are the ones that he leaves behind.
